I’m SkillBridge Approved: Learn Real Estate With a Veteran Who’s Been in Your Shoes
BIG NEWS: I’m officially SkillBridge approved!
And this one means a lot to me.
After years in the Navy, I know firsthand that one of the biggest questions as you approach retirement or separation is:
“What am I going to do next?”
For me, the answer ended up being real estate.
Now I have the opportunity to help other transitioning service members explore whether this career could be their next move too.
What Is SkillBridge?
SkillBridge gives eligible active-duty service members an opportunity to gain real-world civilian work experience through approved training, internships and apprenticeships as they approach the end of their military careers.
Depending on eligibility and service-specific rules, SkillBridge opportunities can occur during the final portion of active-duty service, with participants continuing to receive their military compensation and benefits. Participation is not automatic and requires command approval.
“But I Don't Have Real Estate Experience.”
Neither did I when I started.
What I DID have was years of Navy experience, including four years as a recruiter in New England.
Looking back, recruiting gave me some of the most valuable skills I use in real estate today.
I learned how to talk to people.
I learned how to listen.
I learned to ask the right questions instead of assuming I knew what someone needed.
Most importantly, I learned how to figure out how I could actually help the person sitting across from me.
Those skills transferred to real estate more than I ever expected.
I joke about it now:
I sold the Navy. I can sell a house!
But there's actually a lot of truth behind that.
Your Military Skills Transfer More Than You Think
Being a successful Realtor isn't just about houses.
It's about people.
It's communication. Follow-up. Organization. Problem solving. Negotiating. Staying calm when something goes sideways. Being accountable. Building relationships. And doing what you said you were going to do.
Sound familiar?
You may be leaving the military without a day of real estate experience and already possess skills that took other people years to develop.
You just need to learn how to apply them to a new industry.
That's where I can help.
What Can I Teach You?
I don't want someone to simply follow me around and watch me sell houses.
I want to show you what this career actually looks like.
The good days.
The difficult clients.
The phone calls.
The contracts.
The showings.
The inspections.
The negotiations.
The marketing.
The follow-up.
The deals that come together—and the ones that completely fall apart.
Most importantly, I can show you how I built my real estate business after leaving the Navy.
I can mentor you through the transition and share the systems, lessons, mistakes and strategies that helped me become a successful Realtor.
Because transitioning out of the military is already a massive change.
You shouldn't have to figure out your next career completely alone.
From One Career of Service to Another
Real estate gave me something I didn't realize I would miss after retiring from the Navy:
A mission.
The uniform changed, but I still get to help people.
Today that might mean helping a military family PCS to Northeast Florida, helping a Veteran use their VA loan, helping someone sell their home, or helping a family relocate across the country.
And now, it can also mean helping another service member figure out whether real estate could be their next career.
That's pretty awesome.
